ChatGPT Ads Getting Clicks but No Demos
When ChatGPT Ads bring clicks but no demo requests, the cause is usually one of seven problems. Here is the order to check them in.
Why are my ChatGPT Ads getting clicks but no demos?
ChatGPT Ads with clicks but no demo requests usually have one of seven problems: broken tracking, the wrong audience, an ad that promises more than the page delivers, a page that doesn’t match the conversation, an offer too heavy for someone still defining the problem, a form that loses people, or slow follow-up. Check them in that order.
Before diagnosing, check you have enough clicks. Zero demos means little until you pass about three clicks for every 1% of your expected click-to-demo rate: at 2%, that is 150 clicks.
Which problem should you check first?
Check tracking first, because broken tracking can hide demos that did happen. Then audience and hints, because the wrong conversations make every later check meaningless. Then the ad-to-page match, the offer, the form and follow-up. Change one thing at a time, and give each change enough clicks to read.
| Check | Where to look | Sign this is the problem | First fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Tracking | Test lead, pixel, CRM, oppref | Demo requests in the CRM or inbox, zero in Ads Manager | Fix the event, keep oppref through redirects |
| 2. Audience and hints | Context hints, locations, platforms | Leads from wrong roles, sizes or countries | Narrow hints to one buyer situation |
| 3. Ad promise | Ad title against page headline | Ad promises a free resource, page asks for a call | Match the headline to the promise |
| 4. Landing page | Page on a phone, load time | High bounce, especially on mobile | Simplify the page, test on iOS and Android |
| 5. Offer | What the page asks for | Researchers asked for a sales demo | Offer a template, tour or trial first |
| 6. Form | Fields, errors, mobile | Form starts but few finishes | Cut to about three fields |
| 7. Follow-up | Time to first reply | Leads arrive but no meetings | Reply the same business day |
Is the audience right for a demo?
Often it isn’t yet. People in a ChatGPT conversation are frequently still working out their problem, and many use personal Free or Go accounts rather than a work workspace. A demo request asks for a commitment they may not be ready to make. If clicks are high and demos zero, test a lighter offer before changing anything else.
Review the context hints for each ad group: broad hints attract broad conversations. The targeting page explains what the hints can and can’t do.
What should you change on the page and offer?
Change the page so its headline repeats the ad’s promise, make one offer suited to the conversation, cut the form to about three fields, and test the whole path on a phone. If the ad promised a template, the page should deliver the template, with the demo as a second step. Fix the biggest mismatch first.
The structure is on ChatGPT Ads landing pages, and mock-ups of matched ads and offers are on the examples page.
Prove the tracking before judging the traffic.
A campaign that seems to produce nothing may be producing demos nobody is counting. Test the path end to end first.
What if leads arrive but demos still don’t happen?
If leads arrive but demos don’t, the problem is follow-up or fit. Check how fast sales replies, whether the reply includes a calendar link, and whether leads fit your ideal customer. A lead from a resource offer needs a helpful next step, not an immediate sales pitch.
Leads that sales rejects are diagnosed in the Google Ads guide to leads that never become customers; the same checks apply to this channel.
Frequently asked questions
Why do ChatGPT Ads get clicks but no conversions?
Usually broken tracking, broad context hints, a page that doesn’t match the ad, or an offer too heavy for people still defining the problem.
How many clicks before I should expect a demo?
Divide 3 by your expected click-to-demo rate. At 2%, zero demos after 150 clicks is unlikely to be chance.
Should ChatGPT Ads offer a demo?
Only for people ready to evaluate. For many conversations, a template, calculator or tour converts better, with the demo second.
Can the oppref parameter break my forms?
It shouldn’t, but redirects or form tools can drop it, which breaks attribution. Test the path.
Why is my ad not getting any clicks at all?
Check its status, billing, budget and bid first. OpenAI suggests waiting 24 hours after launch before treating zero delivery as a problem.
Should I pause the campaign?
Not until tracking is proven and you have passed the click threshold. Then fix the biggest mismatch before spending more.
