Programs that put founders in front of investors
- NC IDEA SEED. A $50,000 grant released in milestone-based tranches over 6 to 12 months. For companies headquartered in North Carolina with most operations there, at least one full-time founder living in the state, proof of concept and an MVP, and revenue or a path to it. Companies with more than $250,000 in trailing revenue or more than $250,000 in equity investment are less likely to be considered. Two cycles a year, usually opening in February and August.
Which route fits your company?
| If your situation is… | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| North Carolina company with an MVP and under $250,000 in revenue and equity raised | NC IDEA SEED | Its published criteria |
| UNC-affiliated founder, early stage | Carolina Angel Network | Its published eligibility |
| B2B software at seed in the Southeast | Cofounders Capital | Its stated focus |
Meeting an organization's criteria means you can apply, not that it will invest.
Apply for SEED before you raise a large round.
NC IDEA says companies with more than $250,000 in equity investment are less likely to be considered, so time the grant before your first big raise.
What should you have ready before you apply?
- Proof that your company is headquartered and operating in North Carolina.
- An MVP and evidence of a validated problem, for NC IDEA SEED.
- A pitch deck and investment documents, for the Carolina Angel Network.
