Team Slide: Founder-Market Fit Investors Notice
At seed, investors are betting on people as much as the product. A wall of past employer logos doesn’t make that case. Specific experience with this customer, this problem and this kind of execution does.
What should a team slide show?
A team slide should show why these founders are unusually well placed to win this market: access to the customer, domain expertise, technical ability or a track record of doing similar work. Add the key gaps and how this round fills them. Include advisors only if they actively help, and say how.
What does a strong team slide look like?
What is founder-market fit?
Founder-market fit means the founders have something that makes them more likely to win this specific market than a smart generalist would. It usually comes from one of these:
- Customer access: you were the buyer, or you sold to these buyers for years.
- Domain knowledge: you understand the workflow, rules or data better than outsiders.
- Technical edge: you have built something similar and know where it breaks.
- Execution record: you have shipped, sold or grown something comparable before.
Should you show gaps in the team?
Yes. Investors will see the gaps anyway. Name the most important one, such as a first sales hire or a senior engineer, and tie it to a milestone on the ask slide. A gap with a plan reads as self-awareness; a hidden gap reads as a blind spot.
Show the unfair access, not the résumé.
One line on why each founder can win this customer beats a list of past job titles.
What if you are a solo founder?
Many investors prefer teams, so a solo founder needs to show how the important skills are covered: a technical contractor or early employee, active advisors with a clear role, and a plan for a first senior hire. Be ready for questions about it, covered in investor questions, and lead with your strongest proof as shown in the pitch deck template.
Frequently asked questions
What should a pitch deck team slide include?
Each founder’s role and one line on why they fit this market, key hires or gaps, and active advisors only.
What is founder-market fit?
Experience, access or knowledge that makes the founders more likely to win this specific market than others.
Should I include advisors on the team slide?
Only if they actively help and you can say how. Investors may contact them.
How do solo founders handle the team slide?
Show how key skills are covered through contractors, early hires or advisors, and the plan for the first senior hire.
Should I include photos on the team slide?
Optional. Specific lines on experience matter far more than photos or logos.
Should the team slide come first or last?
Late in most decks. At pre-seed, if the team is your strongest proof, move it earlier.
